Colon Container Terminal
Overview
Colon Container Terminal (CCT) is part of the Evergreen Group and started operations in Panama since 1997. Back in 1994, the Group proposed to build a modern container terminal leveraging the geographical position of Panama, the benefits of the country’s connectivity and wide array of maritime and logistics services. In 1995, a master plan to develop a container terminal in Coco Solo North was submitted to the Panamanian Government, and the new terminal named CCT was built in the same place where a former US navy base was located.
Location
Colon Container Terminal is located in Coco Solo North, province of Colon. This seaport is becoming an ideal site for transshipment and cargo inbound/outbound to and from the Zona Libre de Colón. At the Atlantic entrance of the Panama Canal, CCT serves to the regional markets of the Caribbean, North, South and Central America with shipments mainly originated in the Far East.
This terminal has a total area of 74.33 hectares, an access channel of 16.4 meters draft and a turning basin of 600 meters in radius for vessel’s turnaround. The breakwater entrance has 200 meters wide allowing vessels into Manzanillo Bay.
This seaport has a road access to Colon Free Zone and to the railroad. Four container berths, eleven quay cranes and other yard equipment allow CCT a handling capacity of 2.4 million teus. The expansion plans include additional container storage areas near the actual port site and across Randolph Avenue as well as additional equipment for more efficient container handling operations.
General Description
CCT is mainly dedicated to receive and handle containers. More than 84% is pure transshipment cargo. The terminal is appropriately equipped to handle the current volumes of arriving cargo, an existing idle capacity allows potential customers to bring cargo to the seaport and benefit of its closeness to the railroad terminal, a short distance by road. Representatives from Customs, Quarantine, AUPSA and Immigration have on-site offices. |
Colon Logistics Park
In response to the rapidly changing landscape of global manufacturing and supply chain management, CCT is now undertaking the development of 30 hectares of its concession lands as a Logistics Bonded Warehouses.
The availability of a logistics park facilities inside the boundaries of CCT will offer a unique opportunity to manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers to take advantage of customized logistics facilities integrated in a new terminal.
