The geographical position of Panama has favored not only the development of its maritime industry but also the consolidation of airport activity.
The continuous improvement in air transport infrastructure in general has allowed Panama to continue to consolidate as a multimodal center, attracting more commercial and tourist activities. Panama has one of the most advanced airport infrastructures in Latin America. Tocumen International Airport is one of the most important airports in connection hub for North and South America.
Tocumen International Airport is the home of Copa Airlines, the largest Panamanian airline in the country and recognized as “The most punctual airline in Latin America” according to the aviation data analysis company OAG (2023).
Currently Tocumen has two runways and fifty-three (43) operational bridged gates for a total handling capacity on average more than 400 daily operations (landings and departures). The Tocumen International Airport is expanding at an unprecedented rate.
Regarding regional flights, the local network includes six more international airports, as well as 24 landing strips that allow passengers and a small volume of cargo to move around Panama easily and safely.
