Panama’s imports have been constantly growing during the last years. The Georgia Tech Panama Logistics Innovation and Research Center developed a tool that allows users to visualize and analyze Panama's imports statistics according to the type of product, commodity, and the country of origin. This tool provides different statistics and characteristics of the goods that are imported. In terms of CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) value, the main groups of goods imported to Panama are fuel, machinery and electric equipment. Panama's main commercial partners are The United States and China.
The value of imports, excluding those corresponding to companies operating in the Colon Free Zone, amounted to USD 12,724 million, 8.8% more than in 2016.
The tool has the following sections:
- Panama Imports: shows the total value (CIF) of goods imported to Panama throughout the years as well as the top products and the top trade partners.
- Panama Imports by Commodity Group: shows the historic behavior of imported goods grouped by the type of commodity as well as a profile of each group detailing the country of origin, products within the group, and historic values.
- Product Profiles: this section goes all the way down to the details of each product (Harmonized System Products) and includes monthly and yearly statistics, trade partners and points of entry to Panama.
- Country Profile: gives information about our trade partners and what is being imported from each one of them.
