Overview

The Panamanian trucking industry is composed of three different sectors: Long-haul trucking, urban freight, and trucking in major logistics areas between the cities of Colon and Panama.

The trucking industry is composed of small and medium companies. Panamanians truckers move freight through Central American countries using the Free Trade Agreements.

On June 29 Law 51 of 2017 was promulgated the Law regulates the Cargo Transportation by Road, subsequently, on October 17 of 2018, through Executive Decree No. 229, the regulations to this law are issued.  The Transit and Land Transportation Authority (ATTT) was the entity that presented the preliminary Law, in order to boost the sector and establishing more agile and efficient relations.

There are several Panamanian institutions that hold relevant information of the trucking industry. Some of these institutions and entities are: the General Comptroller, Transit and Land Transportation Authority, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Customs National Authority, CANATRACA (National Chamber of Cargo Transportation), Port Authorities, Free Zones, among others.
