Tourist and Multimodal Logistics Support Zone in Baru
The Baru Free Zone was created pursuant to Law No. 19 of 2001 with the purpose of establishing a special fiscal and customs regime to promote tourism and a logistics multimodal system. It is a commercial, tourist, industrial and logistics area which seeks the growth of the Baru region of Chiriqui province. Its privileged position, being on the border of Panama with Costa Rica, provides commercial benefits for the entire Central American region.

Legal Framework
- Law 19 of 2001 (By which a Special Tax and Customs Regime of Tourist Free Zone and Multimodal Logistic Support is created in Baru)
- Law 120 of 2013, that modifies article 27 of law 19 of 2001 and dictates other fiscal provisions.
