The geographical position of Panama has favored not only the development of its maritime industry but also the consolidation of airport activity.
The continuous improvement in air transport infrastructure in general has allowed Panama to continue to consolidate as a multimodal center, attracting more commercial and tourist activities. Panama has one of the most advanced airport infrastructures in Latin America.
Given its position, the Tocumen International Airport has become a very important hub for connecting North and South America. Tocumen International Airport is home for Copa Airlines, the largest Panamanian Airline. Copa Airline is the second airline in the world for On-Time Performance (OTP) according to Official Airline Guide (OAG) of 2020.
Currently Tocumen has two runways and thirty-five (35) bridged gates for a total handling capacity on average more than 400 daily operations (landings and departures). The Tocumen International Airport is expanding at an unprecedented rate.
Regarding regional flights, the local network includes six more international airports, as well as 24 landing strips that allow passengers and a small volume of cargo to move around Panama easily and safely.
