Zona Franca Turística y de Apoyo Logístico Multimodal de Barú

Baru Free Zone was created by Law 19 dated May 4th, 2001 with the purpose of establishing a special fiscal and customs regime to promote tourism and a logistics multimodal system. It is a commercial, tourist, industrial and logistics area which seeks the growth of the Baru region, Chiriqui province. Its privileged position, being on the border of Panama with Costa Rica, provides commercial benefits for the entire Central American region.

Legal Framework
- Ley 19 de mayo de 2001 (Por la cual se crea un Régimen Fiscal y Aduanero Especial de Zona Franca Turística y de Apoyo Logístico Multimodal en Barú)
- Ley 120 del 30 de diciembre de 2013, que modifica el artículo 27 de la ley 19 de 2001 y dicta otras disposiciones fiscales.
